» 5 out of 5 Evil Faces
Okay so we all know that Witchery kicks ass, or at least I do. Though maybe you disagree with that and think they are typical? I have read alot of people do. I on the other hand disagree with the typical opinion. I personally think of Witchery as a very non-typical band.
Firstly they actually know how to play their instruments (sure, there are alot of other metal bands that also know how to play) but there are also a fair share of those who could use another lesson or two.
Plus the sense of humor expressed within their lyrics, artwork and such. Like an old classic horror movie would make you laugh. I get the same vibe from Witchery. Maybe they did not intend for it to be this way, and my twisted sense of humor just leads me to believe that titles such as “Dead, Hot and Ready” are meant to have a semi comical theme.
Anyway onto this particular release from Sweden’s masters of thrash.
This is a really cool CD! It seems a bit heavier than their previous releases but still maintains the same overall sound, flow and quality.
It starts with an instrumental of roaring drums. Reminiscent of an army marching into battle. Beating their drums as a warning to the enemy of the fate that awaits them.
Then a nice mix of guitars fade in until it is an all out thrash metal feast for the listeners ears!
45 minutes later you (the listener) are left in a daze and awe struck state of mind. Having been pounded into the ground by the awesome riffs and leads that accompanied the drums and bass throughout this metal ear candy.
In fact, I am listening to it as I write this review (as I do while writing all reviews) and I must say that as it gets to the 4th and 5th tracks this CD really takes off. I find myself repeatedly banging my head to the beat and playing air guitar along with Jenson and Richard.
The vocals are typical of past Witchery releases. A mix of low growls (semi understandable) and a higher range of screams right out of the scariest graveyard ever!
Okay so there is nothing groundbreaking here. It is typical Witchery, but as with all bands there are subtle changes with each release.
Though I can say without a doubt that if you are a fan of their previous releases, this one will not disapoint.
