Rhapsody Of Fire - Triumph or Agony

Once again it is time for another CD review. It is not a new band, but they have a new name. Or at least a longer one. Italian opera metal masters Rhapsody have changed the band name to Rhapsody of Fire and have released another masterpiece.

As with all their CD’s Rhapsody takes you on a hour + long journey back into the days of old when men carried swords and fought against kings for freedom from slavery, oh and there are dragons too. I have heard alot of black metal bands referred to as epic in the past ( I am guilty of this myself) but Rhapsody (of Fire) define the term epic.

This is not traditional metal in any sense. This is an acquired taste. It has definite metal elements and at times is just that, but also offers a plethora of other styles.

None of my friends really care much for this band. I guess it is just too operatic for them or something. Regardless, I dig Rhapsody and this release has not deterred me in anyway.

Triumph or Agony seems more slow and somber than past albums. Maybe it has to do with the name change or maybe it is just another saga in the line of CD’s they have released or plan to in the future.

It is pretty much the same style as all the CD’s under the name Rhapsody just a bit more on the opera side of the spectrum. This is not a CD for a party. These are slow sad songs with an inspiring sound mixed in.

If you are a fan of this band, than how can you not check out this release and any more they put out in the future. Take my word for it and do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of the one today.
