» 4 out of 5 Evil Faces
Okay, maybe this review is out of date. Not sure when this was actually released but I just got ahold of a copy recently. Well like a month ago, but never reviewed it.
Plus I figure it is already the 11th day of the new year and I might as well get around to adding more content.
I have a few reviews and a couple of interviews scheduled for this month so be sure to check back over the next week for additional stuff.
Anyway, enough with the formalities and on with the topic at hand. Napalm Death needs no introduction but they have released a new CD entitled Smear Campaign that might.
I have been listening to Napalm Death longer than I have even liked extreme metal. Like with Slayer, back in the spandex days, I used to listen to the Scum CD and make fun of it, but after awhile it began to grow on me.
Napalm Death can be counted among the bands that helped shape my musical tastes into what they have been over the years and what they are today.
Though a few years ago I bought a copy of Diatribes, I think and was not overly impressed with it. So I kinda stopped paying attention to ND for the last few years. Then a couple of months ago I heard a couple of tracks from Smear Campaign on the radio and decided to pick up a copy and give them another listen.
Anyway this is a good CD it is non stop grinding crust style death metal. There are many, many fast parts and a few slow parts to add some atmosphere and rhythm. It is not my favorite CD I have heard lately but all in all it is good. It would be good music to listen to before a night of rioting. Though I do not support such behavior so you will just have to give it a listen while sitting there.
It is not overly melodic but is not complete noise either, it is plain old ND. A mix of the original sound from back in the late 80′s combined with the more melodic approach we heard in the 90′s. If you are a fan of the past releases give this one a shot, you will not be disappointed.
