2 out of 5 Evil Faces

Okay, once again it’s time for another impromptu CD review that’s probably a few weeks too late for anyone to care, and once again it’s a band that needs no introduction. Morbid Angel!!!!!! I’ve been looking forward to hearing this for awhile now. In less I missed a release (and forgot the alphabet) this is the first one in a few years (almost 10)
Usually I have a hard time figuring out what I’m gonna say when I write a review of what a CD sounds like. Especially when it’s a band that has released so many previous CDs. You’d figure you’d have a semi feel for the sound of the band, and for the most part this proves true again, but…
There are 3 things I notice about this CD:
- There are okay songs
- There are shitty songs
- There are 0 (zero) awesome songs
Okay there’s a couple of other things I’ve made a mental note of. The shitty songs are the 3 longest songs on the CD, they are nothing like you would expect from Morbid Angel. They’re some sort of industrial drum machine sounding songs. Though the 3rd of the 3 titled “Radikult” gets okay about mid way through (that’s where I’m at in the CD as I type this) but now it’s returned to this odd marching beat reminiscent of Rob Zombie for lack of a better description. No offense to Rob!
So having said all that, onto my review of Morbid Angel’s latest offering entitled Illud Divinum Insanus
This CD sucks!!!!
While there are some okay songs in the traditional vein of Morbid Angel. There is nothing here that strikes my fancy in the least. There are a few catchy riffs, but for the most part the drums sound like a drum machine throughout, the ranting vocals (that are fairly understandable) are not for me. The industrial CD filler material is a total turn off. I don’t feel like I just listened to a Morbid Angel CD at all.
I would recommend skipping this CD and just listening to their older releases. Nah, it ain’t that bad and is only $10 @ iTunes.
