Hate Eternal – Phoenix Amongst The Ashes

   3 out of 5 Evil Faces

Okay boys and girls. Time for my first CD review in quite sometime. Actually not as long as the site indicates, but do to technical issues I lost a few reviews. :(

Anyway onto this review. This time around it’s the latest offering from Hate Eternal released on Metal Blade. The title is Phoenix Amongst The Ashes which I think is a pretty cool name, (not sure of they mean the city or the bird, but I will assume they meant the bird as it just makes more sense) but does the music live up to it you ask?

I think so.

Again as with a lot of bands that have been around for a few releases. There’s nothing new here. It sounds as one would expect a Hate Eternal CD to sound. Blast beats, double bass, ear slicing riffs and technicality.

Admittedly I’m not the biggest Hate Eternal fan as there probably is. Their first CD “Conquering the Throne” was intriguing, though with each release just more of the same. Nothing bad, just nothing overly interesting. So if you’re a fan of this band. This release will not disappoint.

The recording quality is good. The mix is good. Maybe better than their previous releases. Phoenix Amongst The Ashes might be a fine CD. Though to be “brutally” honest (no pun intended) I find it rather boring. This is not the same as finding it bad. It’s just more of the same. There’s never any ear catching riffs that stick out. Not a lot of tempo changes, it’s just fast to mid paced throughout.

So as always. who am I to judge what you will think of it? The quality of any release is in the ears of the listener. So go grab a copy of this CD today and decide for yourself.
