The viking metal masters Ensiferum return with their newest effort. This one is called Victory Songs and I suppose that’s accurate as this release is another victory.
Ensiferum just keeps on going. Each release as good or better than the last. I doubt they will ever top Iron as that is a total masterpiece IMO. Though each CD seems to have that certain melodic warrior style that I like so much about this band.
The songs are like epic hymns played on the field of battle right before the ensuing fight gets underway. Letting the opposing army know what they are about to get involved with. There is a proud patriotic sound mixed in these songs as well.
Beyond all of that jargon, this is just a great metal CD. If you have heard their previous releases than you know what Ensiferum sounds like and Victory Songs does nothing to disappoint.
9 glorious tracks of pure viking splendor. It starts slow gets going straight away and never relents from the marching melody we have all grown to expect from them.
The guitar work is as always top notch, the drums pound out the rhythm, the bass fills it all out and the varying vocal styles make for an all around medieval fare. This release reminds me of Finntroll a little. Not sure of the past ones have that sound or not. I will have to dig them out and give them another spin.
Either way, this CD is awesome. I am not sure what else to say about it, except if you like what Ensiferum has done in the past, Victory Songs is sure to please you.
