Ensiferum-Dragonheads

OK the long awaited new release from Finnish folk metal gods Ensiferum has been released. It is entitled Dragonheads and was released by Spinefarm Records a few weeks ago.

This is my opinion of it, I hope you will all agree, or agree to disagree. :P

It is just what I was hoping for! More great epic battle hymns resembling sounds of long ago, while incorporating a mixture of modern heavy metal and folk stylings as well.

It has pretty much the same feel and rhythm as their previous releases. Great recording quality, melodies and awesome guitar riffs. This stuff makes me want to get out my sword and suit of armor then prepare for battle!

They should play this stuff for the troops before they enter combat. I bet it would increase their odds ;)

Anyway, “Dragonheads” is the first release featuring Petri Lindroos (ex:Norther) on guitar/vocals and Janne Parviainen (ex:Barathrum, ex:Waltari) on drums.

Lindroos has big shoes to fill replacing former guitarist Jari Mäenpää (now:Wintersun). There is no disappointment at all. Lindroos does the job nicely, as well as Parviainen. In fact there is little difference and the change seems flawless!

Anyway if you are a fan of the previous releases, this one is sure to NOT disappoint! This CD features 6 tracks (including an awesome rendition of Amorphis’s Into Hiding) for a total of roughly 25 minutes. Remember it is an EP. :P
