Dying Fetus - War of Attrition

OK, ladies and gentlemen. It is again time for another CD review. This one is even timely. It was just released a week ago. So unless you are more on top of the CD buying game than me, you most likely do not own a copy of this release yet.

You may have guessed by the title or the image, but this one is from none other than Maryland’s own Dying Fetus. Their new release War of Attrition on Relapse Records is sure to please fans of this band.

They stay true to their original sound. I have to commend them for this, as there is only one original member still present, John Gallagher. He was the drummer on their first demo release Bathe in Entrails but he switched to guitar for the second Infatuation with Malevolence and has been the driving force behind this band for, wow, 14 plus years now.

It is hard to believe DF has been around for so long. Where have the last 10 years gone. I remember when they we’re an underground band no one had heard of. Not the case anymore.

Anyway enough rambling and on with the review. I already told you that it is good, but how good is it? It is not their best release IMHO. Though it is not their worst either. Actually none of this bands releases are what I would say bad. Some are recorded a bit better than others but all in all they are all cool.

This one is no exception with 8 blistering tracks of pure anger and rage this band is sending a clear message that they are not happy with the current state of politics in this country. I have not read the lyrics but judging by the album art, album and song titles I feel safe in making my assumption.

Though you know what they say about assuming things. :P

Anyway this as usual is nothing groundbreaking it is just more technical death metal with a hardcore style mixed in. It is more on the metal side than earlier releases. if you liked the last 5 full lengths than this one is sure to not disappoint. :)
