Deicide - The Stench Of Redemption

Okay ladies and gentlemen, here is another CD review and once again it is for a band that needs no introduction. Deicide!

The long awaited new release The Stench Of Redemption is finally upon us.

I will admit that over the years I have not been a huge fan of this band. When they first came to my attention back in 1990. I was taken by there style, but hey that was 16 years ago. This band was doing what everyone would try to emulate for the rest of the decade (if not still today) way back then.

It was a brand new style of heavy!

Their first few albums we’re good but then I got a copy of Serpents Of The Light and somehow it all just fell apart for me.

The music was not as good as all the bands trying to copy the style in my opinion. I did not care for the vocals. It was like they we’re trying to hard to be heavy. Then Glen Benton cuts/burns an upside down cross in his forehead and well…. It just did not gel with me, for whatever reason, though mostly it just seemed a bit silly.

Though this is a new CD. I have been hearing alot about it and being a lifelong fan of metal I always look forward to a new release from such an established band.

Well I am pleased to say that the new CD is by far the best release this band has ever put out. I do not know if the addition of Jack Owen (cannibal corpse) and Ralph Santolla (iced earth, death) on guitars has anything to do with it or not. Though you have to assume it does. 2 new guitar players is pretty much a whole new band. Maybe one or both took over the song/riff writing duties or something but this CD kicks some serious ass. It has a bit more of a Cannibal style so I am gonna assume Owen had his hand in there somewhere.

Every song is totally awesome. The overall flow is excellent. The riffs are technical and melodic. The drums are head crushing and even the vocals seem toned down to a low roar compared to some of the earlier releases. The recording is really well done also.

I could try to exaplin what it sounds like in great detail. Though I figure you all know what they sound like. There is no mistaking that it is Deicide because of the vocals but the guitars are better.

This might be one of the best death metal releases of the year!

Anyway go out and buy this CD. You will not be dissapointed. I promise!
