Okay so I heard this band on a local radio station a few weeks ago and thought, “Hey! Wow, thats pretty good stuff”
If you are a fan of power metal that is.
A few years ago I would not have liked this much at all. I was only into grinding death metal then, but have since embraced all styles of metal. (in my old age, that is)
After having listened to the CD a few times, it isn’t bad, but it is not what I thought it was going to be when I first heard it. It starts off good, but after awhile it kinda starts droning on. The vocals become overwhelming to me, I am used to growls and screams. (maybe my tastes have not changed as much as I think)
The guitar players seem to be pretty good. They apparantly know their way around the fret board all right. In all honesty the music is really well played. The vocals are what get to me, though they are not totally bad either. They just start to sound like moaning after awhile.
The lyrics are another story. I cannot understand them all, but they seem to be very emotionally uplifting in nature. I keep hearing stuff about how my life is in my hands and I can be all that I want to be and so on…
Not that there is anything wrong with a metal band singing about positive topics. Hell, maybe the metal scene needs more positive messages as oppossed to killing, death and satan, but for me the afformentioned topics are what I am used to. So when a band strays from the typical format, it does not go unnoticed.
Though, the reality is that here in America (I cannot speak to the way it is elsewhere, but I bet it is the same in most places) we have to keep our moral compass pointing in the right direction. The media, the government are not going to do it for us.
The news (TV, radio, movies) is filled with the horror of war, the stark realities of the aftermath of 9-11 and so on… It is a nice change to hear something at least attempting to send a positive message, especially from a young band.
So if you are a fan of power metal (Iron Maiden, Helloween, Queensryche…) or if you are a fan of guitar driven melodic metal (Yngwie, Children Of Bodom…) be sure to check this band out.
