Brian Posehn - Live In Nerd Rage

Here is a review of a CD that is not music. It is stand-up comedy. Though music is partly the topic, more specifically metal music and it was released by a metal label. So that is why I am gonna review it, plus I gotta review something.

I am sure you have seen this guy before even though you may not know it. He had a re-occuring role on the NBC show Just Shoot Me amongst other notable acting credits to his name.

He is the semi, well complete nerdy actor we all know and love Brian Posehn. He has released a comedy CD via Relapse records and of all things, in part he discusses heavy metal music.

Who knew that when I am watching JSM reruns I was watching a metal fan play one of the parts. Not that it is really all that surprising that he is a fan of metal or anything. It is just not everyday that someone you see on TV is putting out a comedy CD via a heavy metal label. So I guess that is the unusual part, not so much his musical preference.

He claims to be a fan of metal anyhow, I have no proof that he really is. I am sure demographics had alot to do with the decision to realease this CD (through a metal label) more so than love or admiration for any music style.

Statistics show that Brian is popular with young people so what better to do than market the CD to fans of heavy metal. Who’s listeners are primarily 18 to 34 year old males. Just my 2 cents.

Enough with the rant, on with the review

This is typical stand up comedy when you get right down to it. There is nothing new here, bad language, sexual inuendos and alot of silliness.

There are some good jokes but all in all it is nothing different than any other comic CD release.

It’s not a special Heavy Metal stand up act or anything of that nature. He just mentions it in his routine a few times. Don’t get me wrong, this CD is worth listening too and if you are in the habit of buying stand up comedy CDs this is one to add to your collection.

Though don’t go get it thinking that it is special for fans of any musical genre. There are a few jokes that might be funnier to those of us that have had the pleasure of enjoying metal over the years but beyond that it is just funny.
