Absu - Mythological Occult Metal 1991-2001

Okay this review is a bit late perhaps, but it took me awhile to get over my cheapness and buy a copy of the latest (last) Absu release titled Mythological Occult Metal 1991-2001.

This is a 2 disc set compiling various songs and unreleased recordings from over the 10 years Absu was a band.

I was hesitant to get a copy due to the fact that I was not sure what all was going to be on it. I still feel a little pain over the “In the Eyes of Joldanach” EP. That sucker was expensive for 4 songs.
I already have their other 5 Cd’s. I don’t want to buy the same songs over again.

Though let me tell you, I am glad I finally did it. Because there is some stuff on here that is freaking awesome! Different versions of songs that I have heard before, cover songs, previously unreleased stuff that I have never heard, and some live recordings that are really cool as well.

I never had the chance to see Absu live, even though I live within 60 miles of them. Seems they don’t/didn’t play alot of local shows over the years (or maybe I just missed them).

I might have seen them at a long closed local club named Joe’s Garage when I was a teenager and they we’re just getting started and not known who they we’re at the time. I’m not sure.

Though after hearing these live tracks, I wish I had gotten an opportunity to go see them after having heard their studio releases and becoming more familiar with who they we’re and what they sounded like.

This is one of my all time favorite bands and I am very sad to see them go. Though I guess all good things must come to an end at some point.
As far as I know they are broken up anyway. I may be wrong. Either way this is a cool CD. It is not the best mastered release I have ever heard. Some of it sounds a bit rough in spots, though it is all listenable.

Plus it is quite long. As mentioned above this is a 2 disc set and each one is roughly 50 minutes in length. So you may need to set aside a bit of time to listen to this release.
