Jeff Hernandez - Vitality

Q: Where is Vitality from?
A: Arlington, Texas

Q: How long has Vitality been together?
A: Since Febuary of 2004

Q: How did Vitality get started?
A: We all basically know each other from other bands we had been in. We played shows together in those other bands and when those bands ended we came together to form Vitality.

Q: How many members are in Vitality? Names? Instruments?
A: We have 5 members.

  • Phil Holland- Vocals
  • Anthony Walker-Drums
  • Jeff Hernandez-Guitar, Backing vocals
  • Stephen Jeter-Bass, Backing vocals
  • Robert Moore-Guitar, Backing Vocals

Q: What is the age range of the band members?
A: We have a wide age range in the band. Basically the range is 23-35, I will leave it at that.

Q: What (if any) is the message behind Vitality’s lyrics?
A: Our lyrics are about everything from humor to things that piss us off. We write about everything really. We write what we feel. There is no limit for us.

Q: How many releases do you all have?
A: We have a four song demo called ” Tearing Through Flesh” which is self released.

That came out in January of 2005. We also have our latest release off of Comatose music which is called ” Voracious Malignity”. That came out in Febuary of 2006.

Q: Who are your biggest influences?
A: We have alot of influences ranging from Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Deeds of Flesh, Decrepit Birth, Severd Savior, Cannibal Corpse, Necrophagist, Vile, Death, Disincarnate, Obituary, Nile.

Basically everything from a little old school to new school death metal.

Q: Of the various tours and shows you have played, what is the most memorable, and why?
A: I would have to say when we did the Comatose Music Texas Massacre tour we did with Aversion To Life and Exulcerate. The whole damn tour was a drunk fest. Phil was drunk on whisky the whole time cracking everyone up.

Q: What is some of your favorite art, books (please include authors), & movies, if any?
A: We are all into horror flix, books and art. We like comedy stuff as well.

Q: When will Vitality be touring? Is there a American/European tour planned?
A: No touring plans as of yet but look out because I’m sure we will be touring very soon.

Q: In general, what has Vitality been up to lately?
A: We are currently writing new material for our next release.

Q: How do you categorize Vitality’s sound when people say “What kind of music is it” Death, Black, Metal, What?
A: We always say its Death Metal.

Q: Any Vitality members from other bands, or currently working on other projects?
A: Yeah Phil and myself used to be in Prophecy together. Robert used to be in Devourment for about a year.

Stephen used to be in a band called Valsgarde, and Anthony was in a band called Unchecked Aggression.

Q: Any plans for the next CD yet, or are you still working on supporting the current release?
A: We are playing shows to support our new release and we are writing new material for the next one as well.

Q: Besides Vitality, what are the various band members into when not, touring, rehearsing, recording music?
A: Well Phil is into going out to the bars and singing Karaoke. We all like going out to clubs and checking out other bands play and supporting our local music scene.

Partying with our friends. Robert has a family wife and a daughter and likes to spend time with them of course. I have a family also that I spend time with.

Sometimes we get all our wifes and girlfriends together and hang out with each other. Its like one big family we have.

We look at it as if we are going to be in a band then it’s got to be like family or it wont work and thats what it is.

Q: What is your opinion on the current state of the world? (terror, the war in Iraq, and so on…)
A: I think all this terror shit sucks. All these terror attacks that other countries are having its all religious based.

I cant speak for everyone in the band on this but I am not a religious person. I think some of the things in the bible are untrue and fabricated. Historians are just finding out facts that are proving that some of that stuff in the bible didnt happen. I’m sure everyone in the band has their own opinions on it. I think all these war and terror attacks are bullshit and everyone should just get along. This world is built around money and greed and it will continue on no matter how much everyone doesnt like it.

Q: Anything I left out that you want to say?
A: Well we in Vitality would like to thank our friends and fans that keep the death metal scene alive. The fans are who keep this scene alive. Also for anyone reading this…please feel free to contact any member of Vitality for anything..whether it’s just to chit chat…ask a serious question or whatever!
