Aversion To Life
Q: Where is Aversion To Life from?
A: We Are based out of Dallas, Texas
Q: How long has Aversion To Life been together?
A: I think we started writing in June, 2005
Q: How did Aversion To Life get started?
A: Well, Emmitt Gillaspy (former Sintury) and Robert (former Devourment, Vitality) we’re putting some songs together when they had time.
Once they realized that the music was pretty bad ass, they started seeking a drummer.
That’s where I come in.
I had just quit my previous band (Withered Dreams) and had my drums set up at a U-Haul storage place. I found Emmitt online and got together with him and we started jammin. After I got situated with the band, it became serious and we started writing for an album and live shows.
Q: How many members are in Aversion To Life? Names? Instruments?
A: There are 4 members:
- Emmitt – Guitar, Backing Vocals
- Derek – Drums
- Justin – Vocals
- Alex – Bass
We are still thinking about a second guitarist. It would be pretty sweet to be able to play all the different guitar parts with 2 guitarists. It would make the live shows heavier and louder!!
Q: What is the age range of the band members?
A: Wow! Ummm… Alex is 18 and I am 21. It’s actually Emmitt’s birthday today, so he is 29 and Justin is 30.
Q: What (if any) is the message behind Aversion To Life’s lyrics?
A: We write alot about murdering and torturing people!
Q: How many releases do you all have?
A: Right now, we just have our album “Ritualized Murder” that was released this month. We are currently writing new material for our next album and possibly a split is in the works.
Q: Who are your biggest influences?
A: We all have a pretty wide range of influences, and I can’t speak for everyone, but I’ll do my best.
I know Justin is influenced by Cannibal Corpse and Malevolent Creation. Emmitt is into Suffocation and Internal Bleeding. Alex likes Dying Fetus and Necrophagist and I am into Black Metal like Dimmu Borgir and Old Man’s Child, but I also like Dying Fetus and Insidious Decrepancy.
Q: Of the various tours and shows you have played, what is the most memorable, and why?
A: I’d probably say that “The Texas Massacre” tour we did with Vitality and Exulcerate was pretty fuckin sweet!
I don’t remember most of it, but I know there was a massive consumption of alcohol and weed and it was really cool. We got to meet alot of new people and anytime spent away from home is good.
Q: When will Aversion To Life be touring? Is there a tour planned?
A: Right now we are just focusing on writing a few more songs and doing a few local shows.
Though we do have a show with Origin coming up. You never now, we might start booking tours for 2007!!!
Q: In general, what has Aversion To Life been up to lately?
A: Well, we just came back from a few weeks off to clear our heads and get ready for more writing, so we have been practicing like 3 times a week, trying to finish up some songs and getting ready for some more shows.
Q: How do you categorize Aversion To Life’s sound when people say “What kind of music is it” Death, Black, Metal, What?
A: Theres alot of different types of Death Metal out there, but we are just Brutal Death Metal. Lots of blast beats and grinding, technical guitar work, lots of palm muting riffs and loud gutteral vocals!
Q: Any Aversion To Life members from other bands, or currently working on other projects?
A: No, not really. Well I do some session work for other bands, if they need a drummer for the studio or shows. I know Emmitt likes to jam alot of blues, so I’ll join in with him every now and then
Q: Any plans for the next CD yet, or are you still working on supporting the current release?
A: Yeah, like I said earlier we are writing new shit, but mostly trying to promote our new release.
Q: Besides Aversion To Life, what are the various band members into when not, touring, rehearsing, recording music?
A: I know that Justin works alot, and we usually party with him on the weekends. Me and Emmitt are pretty good friends, so we hang out alot and go to shows and smoke lots of weed. I guess Alex likes to hang out with his frends and smoke up.
Q: What is your opinion on the current state of the world? (terror, the war in Iraq, and so on…)
A: I think it’s pretty stupid. I don’t know why we can’t just get along. I think the human race is full of people who want to control everything and it just leads to violence. In other words… Bush is a dildo!
