Chimaira-Resurrection

Again we embark on yet another in a long line of heavy metal CD reviews. I am doing here at Metalpedia. This time it is for a band that I have never really heard before but I gather they are at least somewhat popular.

It is Cleveland’s Chimaira. They have released a new CD entitled Resurrection. It is available on Ferret Music

I am going to say right off the bat that this is not my style of metal. So maybe I have missed an entire genre that sounds like/similar to Chimaira.

I am not saying Chimaira is a bad band it is just not my style of metal. They have a real tight sound, that has some cool stuff going on. It is just the general rhythm they keep returning to that spoils it.

Dying Fetus - War of Attrition

OK, ladies and gentlemen. It is again time for another CD review. This one is even timely. It was just released a week ago. So unless you are more on top of the CD buying game than me, you most likely do not own a copy of this release yet.

You may have guessed by the title or the image, but this one is from none other than Maryland’s own Dying Fetus. Their new release War of Attrition on Relapse Records is sure to please fans of this band.

They stay true to their original sound. I have to commend them for this, as there is only one original member still present, John Gallagher. He was the drummer on their first demo release Bathe in Entrails but he switched to guitar for the second Infatuation with Malevolence and has been the driving force behind this band for, wow, 14 plus years now.

Solitude Aeturnus - Alone

Okay, here is a band that hails from right down the road from me. Well, maybe a little farther, but compared to all the other bands that I listen too this one is rather close.

This is not a new band. They have been around for 20 years now. Though there was a hiatus for the last 7 or so.

Solitude Aeturnus hailing from none other than Arlington, Texas. formed back in 1987 and unleashed their somber doom metal songs onto the world, or at least North Texas.

Anyway, I remember seeing Solitude Aeturnus play at a local club back in the late 80′s or maybe early 90′s. At least I think it was them. I was young, dumb and full of… alcohol. :P So I could be mistaken. Admittedly this was not my favorite band growing up. As previously mentioned they are rather somber and doomy. When I was young I was into only fast speed and death metal.
