Fuck The Facts - Stigmata High Five

Here is a new release from Canadian metal band Fuck The Facts, released by Relapse records entitled Stigmata High Five.

This marks F.T.F.’s journey from obscure underground metal to a new high. The Relapse high!

I guess I am just not into grind metal as much as I used to be, or maybe it is changing from what it was at one time. I have mentioned before that going back a few years this CD would have been right up my alley but these days not as much, but I still like it. :)

Fuck The Facts is a cross between grind, death and hardcore, with sound effects mixed in (static, feedback voices, phone sounds, wind chimes and more…) there are also some slow keyboardy parts as well.

It has definite similarities with Dying Fetus, Misery Index and bands such as those, plus a discordant mathcore influence.

Deicide – The Stench Of Redemption

Deicide - The Stench Of Redemption

Okay ladies and gentlemen, here is another CD review and once again it is for a band that needs no introduction. Deicide!

The long awaited new release The Stench Of Redemption is finally upon us.

I will admit that over the years I have not been a huge fan of this band. When they first came to my attention back in 1990. I was taken by there style, but hey that was 16 years ago. This band was doing what everyone would try to emulate for the rest of the decade (if not still today) way back then.

It was a brand new style of heavy!

Their first few albums we’re good but then I got a copy of Serpents Of The Light and somehow it all just fell apart for me.

The music was not as good as all the bands trying to copy the style in my opinion. I did not care for the vocals. It was like they we’re trying to hard to be heavy. Then Glen Benton cuts/burns an upside down cross in his forehead and well…. It just did not gel with me, for whatever reason, though mostly it just seemed a bit silly.

All Shall Perish - The Price of Existence

Here is a new release from California’s All Shall Perish entitled The Price Of Existence. This CD was released by Nuclear Blast a few weeks ago.

Here is a band that mixes death & black metal with a mild taste of hardcore. Mainly the vocals are where the hardcore style exists though some of the guitar also has a hint.

As I have mentioned before, I am not the biggest fan of hardcore mixed with metal. I am not saying that I do not like it. I just mean that it is not my favorite. I am from the old school, thus more of a traditional metal fan.

Maybe this just means I am getting old and set in my ways. ;)

Either way this is a not a bad CD. In fact just the opposite, it is a good CD. Not my favorite, but still good. It is definetely heavy and has some great riffs, pounding drums, angry vocals and soothing melodies thrown in to keep you from going insane.

Aversion To Life – Ritualized Murder

Aversion To Life - Ritualized Murder

Time for another review. This time Aversion to Life – Ritualized Murder released by Comatose music.

This release is typical of the Dallas, Texas death/grind metal.

If you have heard Devourment and/or Prophecy than you have heard Aversion To Life. This is not necessarily a bad thing if you like this style. I used to like it alot, but have since grown tired of it.

Their more Devourment than Prophecy and have their own style as well, but there are definite similarities. Though what can be expected when the same group of people play in all the bands?

The funny thing to me is one of the members (Emmitt) used to play in the band called Sintury that was better than both the previously mentiond bands.

Bilocate - Dysphoria

Okay this is a band that I had never heard until they contacted me wanting to get there CD reviewed.

I am slow sometimes, but I always get around to accomplishing what I need to do at some point.

Anyway I am glad they contacted me. This is a pretty good CD. The style is not what I was expecting. I expected typical metal.

This is a mixture of rough/raw black metal and atmospheric/ambient passages as well as a doomy/gloomy sound. It also has some progressive influences. There are alot of piano/keyboard parts, as well as some intricate guitar passages.

The recording quality could be better, but all in all it is mixed rather well. It has a bit too much trebel for my tastes other than that it is fine.

Slayer – Christ Illusion

Slayer - Chrsit Illusion

I remember back when I was a youth and was into Ratt, Motley Crue, Ozzy and the likes! (yes I admit it)

A friend of mine had a Slayer album (Show No Mercy, on vinyl even) and we used to listen to it for jokes, as neither of us liked it much.

It was just noise, no melody at all. ;)

Then as the years went by, I found myself interested in harder and heavier metal. First it was Metallica, Anthrax and then came Slayer. It was the Hell Awaits release that converted me. So in a way, Slayer can be credited with igniting my passion for the dark side of metal.

I can still remember the day I heard that intro to the album with that great marching riff, at first that was the only part I liked. Then as more time went by I found myself hooked on the whole album. Especially the song “Hardening of the Arteries”

Thus beginning my love affair with Death Metal!

The godfathers of metal are back with a brand new CD for our musical enjoyment. This time they even got original drummer Dave Lombardo back!

Cellador - Enter Deception

Okay so I heard this band on a local radio station a few weeks ago and thought, “Hey! Wow, thats pretty good stuff”

If you are a fan of power metal that is.

A few years ago I would not have liked this much at all. I was only into grinding death metal then, but have since embraced all styles of metal. (in my old age, that is) :P

After having listened to the CD a few times, it isn’t bad, but it is not what I thought it was going to be when I first heard it. It starts off good, but after awhile it kinda starts droning on. The vocals become overwhelming to me, I am used to growls and screams. (maybe my tastes have not changed as much as I think)

Misery Index - Discordia

Okay, I am back! It has been awhile since anything has been posted around here, but hey, it’s been awhile since I bought any CD’s.

No, really I have just been real busy as of late, work, life and all that good stuff that slows down the fun I have around here. ;)

Anyway on with a review as I doubt many of you care what my life is like. :P

This time around it is Misery Index.

They released a new CD via Relapse Records a few months ago entitled Discordia. As usual I am late with my review, but as they say better late than never. :)

Even though this band has been around for awhile and have released a few CD’s I have not had the pleasure of listening to them as much as other bands.
