OK, I have been waiting for Bal-Sagoth to release a new CD since their last one “Atlantis Ascendant” back in 2001.
I really got into this band when I first heard them in the late 90′s. They had a unique style all to their own. It was both majestic and heavy at the same time. Plus the album and song titles could not be outdone.
In fact a couple friends and I used to have a running competition to come up with the longest song titles ever. Mainly just because we we’re bored, but also because I personally like long song titles.
I bought all of Bal-Sagoth’s Cd’s (that had been released) within a month of each other. I bought their second release “Starfire Burning Upon The Ice-Veiled Throne Of Ultima Thule” and “Battle Magic” at the same time, then came the original, next “The Power Cosmic” and finally when “Atlantis Ascendant” was released I got a copy of that too.

Okay this review is a bit late perhaps, but it took me awhile to get over my cheapness and buy a copy of the latest (last) Absu release titled Mythological Occult Metal 1991-2001.
This is a 2 disc set compiling various songs and unreleased recordings from over the 10 years Absu was a band.
I was hesitant to get a copy due to the fact that I was not sure what all was going to be on it. I still feel a little pain over the “In the Eyes of Joldanach” EP. That sucker was expensive for 4 songs.
I already have their other 5 Cd’s. I don’t want to buy the same songs over again.

Biography
Originally called Virgin’s Cunt, this band released 2 demo cassettes before they changed their name to Darkwoods My Betrothed and released 3 top notch Cd’s.
They play epic viking black metal at it’s best, from clean vocals and rhythmic melodies to full on grinding black metal with demonic growls, moans and screams.
If you are a fan of black metal you will not be disappointed with this band.
I guarantee it.
