Ihsahn – The Adversary

Ihsahn - The Adversary Album Cover

Time yet again for another CD review, this time it’s the debut solo release from former Emperor front man Ihsahn, titled The Adversary. Released by Candlelight Records a few weeks ago.

I got this CD a week ago, and have listened to it quite a few times. Luckily for me or for this review anyway, I did because the first time I listened to it. I was not too impressed and turned it off.

This is not grinding death/black metal. It is typical Ihsahn (Emperor, Peccatum) more Peccatum than Emperor, but none the less it does remind me of later Emperor releases.

I originally heard this by viewing the video for the opening song Invocation. Not a bad song at all, so I bought the CD. It is pretty cool, but has many slow pretty parts.

The Sword – Age Of Winters

The Sword - Age Of Winters Album Cover

Okay, we’ll start off as usual with some banter.

Though this time it is related to the topic at hand, a review of the CD release Age Of Winters from Austin, Texas stoner metal band The Sword. I am going to admit when I first heard the name of the band and the CD title I assumed it was going to be more icy tundra Nordic Viking Black Metal from Finland or Norway.

Wow, was I wrong! ;)

On the complete opposite hand (as mentioned above) this is sludgy stoner doom metal from Texas. (no ice or vikings in site) :P It is nothing new, and has definite Black Sabbath overtones, which some people are tired of as I have gathered, while reading other reviews of this CD. I disagree however, and like this CD alot.

Oblivion – Remixed

Oblivion - Remixed Album Cover

Okay ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for yet another CD review brought to you by the good folks at Metalpedia!

Me, that is!

For this one we have to go back a few years, so close your eyes, relax and imagine it is 1988-1990 again and the thrash scene is alive and kicking.

Are you there? Has your hair gotten bigger? :P No really, I’m not trying to be a smart ass just trying to set the mood. ;)

The truth is this review is for a newly released CD-R of a band from the past, named Oblivion. I was not familiar with this band (until now). I am assuming they we’re popular in their local scene, with maybe some traveling success mixed in. Though for whatever reason I had never heard of them until recently.

Agent Steel

Biography

A great thrash metal band that released 2 full lenghts and an EP in the 80′s then broke up for 12 years.

In 1999 they reunited under the same name with a new singer and released a new full length in 2000. Then in 2003 after some more lineup changes they released the 4th full length.

All are top notch releases, though they really came unto their own with there 2nd full length.

Cannibal Corpse - Kill

Once again it is time for me to share my opinion of another CD with the loyal readers of this site. If there are any?

As usual we will start with something completely unrelated to the topic at hand…

Me! :) Hey, it is my site after all. :)

It’s funny, everytime I start to write a CD review, I have no idea what I am going to say, so I just start typing until I re-read it a few times, fine tune a few words here and there and when it finally makes sense. I click the publish button. :P

Anyway this is a review of the new Cannibal Corpse release simply entitled, Kill. It was released by Metal Blade Records a few weeks ago.
