Time yet again for another CD review, this time it’s the debut solo release from former Emperor front man Ihsahn, titled The Adversary. Released by Candlelight Records a few weeks ago.
I got this CD a week ago, and have listened to it quite a few times. Luckily for me or for this review anyway, I did because the first time I listened to it. I was not too impressed and turned it off.
This is not grinding death/black metal. It is typical Ihsahn (Emperor, Peccatum) more Peccatum than Emperor, but none the less it does remind me of later Emperor releases.
I originally heard this by viewing the video for the opening song Invocation. Not a bad song at all, so I bought the CD. It is pretty cool, but has many slow pretty parts.

Okay, we’ll start off as usual with some banter.
Though this time it is related to the topic at hand, a review of the CD release Age Of Winters from Austin, Texas stoner metal band The Sword. I am going to admit when I first heard the name of the band and the CD title I assumed it was going to be more icy tundra Nordic Viking Black Metal from Finland or Norway.
Wow, was I wrong!
On the complete opposite hand (as mentioned above) this is sludgy stoner doom metal from Texas. (no ice or vikings in site)
It is nothing new, and has definite Black Sabbath overtones, which some people are tired of as I have gathered, while reading other reviews of this CD. I disagree however, and like this CD alot.
