Pyrexia

December 24th, 2005 Metalpedia

Q: Where is Pyrexia from?
A: Pyrexia is originally from New York City.

Over time the band has become more and more spread out. Lee and myself live in South Jersey, Justin lives in Delaware and our latest addition Jason lives all the way up in Rochester, New York. The band members are not exactly down the street from each other anymore. :P

Though, Pyrexia will always be known as one of the Founding Fathers of NYDM

Q: How long has Pyrexia been together?
A: I love when people ask this question because this is something alot of the newer Pyrexia fans don’t know. Pyrexia has been around since 1992, when they released the demo Liturgy of Impurity with Chris Basile and Guy Marchais being the founders. Then came the rare and out of print Sermon of Mockery album in 1993.

Which, if you wanna find it, I tell every one, just go onto Ebay. I just saw that cd sell on Ebay for $172.50! I have had alot of trouble sleeping since I saw that.

Domination Through Impurity – Essence Of Brutality

December 24th, 2005 Metalpedia

domination-through-impurity-essence-of-brutality I have an addiction to CD’s. I will admit it. I love them! The case, the booklet, the back inlay card and even the smell of a new one freshly opened. Not to mention, they come with music on them too. :P
Sometimes I’ll even buy one based on the band name or the album cover. This CD falls into that category. I bought it based on the band name.

Here is the debut release from Domination Through Impurity. It features Joe Payne (Lust of Decay) on guitar/vocals, Jordan Varela (Lividity) on drums and Dan Royer (Scapegoat) on bass.

I hadn’t even heard of Domination Through Impurity before I got this CD, but with a name like that, I was doomed from the start. :)

This is technical death metal in the vein of Cannibal Corpse and Vile with a Necrophagist influence as well.

Some parts of it are awesome. Namely the guitar, vocals and the general song structure. Though it is a bit rough around the edges. The drum rolls and fills are mechanical sounding.

All in all this is a great debut realease. It has all the stuff I like. It changes tempo, has well executed guitar riffs and the vocals are cool.

I have always described my perfect vision of death metal by saying I want the tempo to go fast, faster, fastest, slow, slower, slowest, then mix it all up again. You get the idea! This CD does just that. Alot of tempo changes, blast beats and growling vocals!

Though this is nothing groundbreaking it is definitely worth picking up a copy. If you like the aforementioned bands, than DTI is sure to start a fire in your britches!
